How to fix a garage door opener gear.
Then install the helical gear assembly.
Start by unplugging the motor.
No matter what type of garage door opener you have you should always lube the rail where it comes in contact with the trolley carriage.
Reassemble the motor assembly and place it back in the opener.
With the gears back in place tighten the chain as directed in your owner s manual.
Remove retaining screws from the cover.
Reattach the chain and tighten it to the proper tension see your owner s manual.
Lay the chain on the garage floor while you complete the repair.
If the gears have screwed up teeth you can likely just replace them to solve the problem.
If not your opener might simply be shot and you ll need a new one.
Pull the chain off the motor unit sprocket and out of the chain spreader.
Silicone spray is a good choice.
Slide the outer trolley away from the inner trolley.
Put a thin layer of the grease included in the kit on the gear.
Shine the flashlight directly at the gear set.
Remove the outer nut and lock washer from the trolley threaded shaft and pull the threaded shaft out of the trolley.
Test your repair with the garage door disconnected from the opener trolley.
If you have a screw drive opener you ll need to grease several spots along the rail gear at least once or twice a year.
